Equity Tool – Self-Assessment

 Project Description

Situation

Skeo collaborated with partner Strategic Economics on EPA’s Equitable Development Tool. Activities included development of the community engagement approach and assessment, tool formatting, and application in two communities.

Solution

The tool helps communities identify whether revitalizing neighborhoods are at risk of displacement and identifies strategies to prevent or reduce displacement. It guides local governments in evaluating baseline conditions and change in neighborhoods poised for revitalization. The tool’s assessment method is based on indicators that help communities maintain and increase affordable housing, retain small businesses, preserve cultural identity and improve access to high-quality employment opportunities.

Outcome

The team then developed a model working session and supplemental worksheets to guide participants in understanding current community conditions, identifying goals and strategies, and evaluating policies and programs that could guide short- and long-term community planning efforts. Skeo delivered the Equitable Development Tool in Stamford and Atlanta.
