Project Description
Situation
In November 2017, the Chesapeake Bay Trust (CBT) engaged Skeo to provide a third-party assessment of the CBT as an inclusive and equitable funder .
Solution
In February 2018, Skeo began a three-month DEI audit including the authorizing environment; hiring, promotion and tenure; contracting investing; training and internal culture; strategic grantmaking program design; funding outcomes; philanthropic leadership; and data tracking, analysis and reporting. As part of this process, Skeo designed and facilitated conversations with CBT staff and board members to help promote cross-fertilization of insights, capture a shared vision, and identify barriers and opportunities for achieving that vision.
Outcome
At the conclusion of the project, Skeo developed an audit report that captured the process, benchmarked outcomes and offered key organizational considerations identified in the audit. Skeo presented the audit results and recommendations to CBT’s board and facilitated a discussion about the board’s priorities for change. Skeo also produced a template audit form that can be used by other organizations seeking to advance DEI through philanthropic and/or environmental work.
